Schools
Quality secondary schools, built to last and run by Malawians.
We build secondary schools — because that’s where Malawi’s need is greatest. Primary education is funded by the government, but secondary schooling is badly under-provided, leaving many capable students with nowhere to go.
After more than a decade of building schools in Malawi, we’ve learned that lasting, quality institutions take real expertise — and a sustainable model. Every school we build is run by a Malawian committee and funds its own running costs through modest student fees. Our very first school, Falls Secondary, has run successfully for years without any financial support from us.

How we build: eco, durable, lasting
Our buildings are designed to be high quality and built to last. Classrooms are more spacious and have more natural light than typical Malawian classrooms, which directly helps pupils learn. Where we can, we use sustainable, eco-build construction techniques — including earthbag building, which uses locally-sourced earth, is low-cost, thermally comfortable in the heat, and extremely robust. Durable buildings mean lower maintenance, which is what keeps a school self-sufficient for decades.
What a school costs
Because we only spend on the buildings, the numbers are clear and your money is traceable:
| Item | Approx. cost |
|---|---|
| Four classrooms | £12,000 |
| Administration block | £6,000 |
| Toilets | £1,000 |
| Land (football-pitch size) | £1,000 |
| A complete school (480-pupil capacity) | £60,000 |
Could you fund a classroom? Whether it’s bricks, a roof or a whole block, every contribution builds something permanent. See how you can help or donate now.
